| Ms Jansen, Watching you play the Meditation from the opera Thais from a 2006 Walbuhne performance shown on Classic Art Showcase made me do a double-take. I didn't realize what I was witnessing until I paid closer attention. Watching you give everything without reservation or pretence captivated my attention. I had to backup TIVO and re-play it over and over. You are a new discovery for me. I haven't seen such artistry in a very long time. You won't remember me, but at the end of last year I was in Europe for business and, having seen you perform many times in New York, decided to stop by Utrecht before returning to the United States to attend your festival. I ran into you briefly during breakfast at the Grand Karel on the first morning (sorry to bother you during that, by the way) and we also spoke very briefly at the conclusion of the festival. The festival was such a hauntingly beautiful experience - following the lanterns around Utrecht during the Kerkenmarathon, the river towards the Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh, then always spiraling my way around the tunnels of the Grand Karel trying to find my way back to my room (thank God for that interactive map in the lobby). Congratulations for it and thank you. I was very sorry to see your message on the 20th and I wish you all the best in your recovery. I will keep an eye out for the next time you venture across the Atlantic to perform in New York, and in the meantime I hope you take some time to relax in the Grand Karel and that you have more luck finding your way around it than I did. I don't know how to express what a feel when I listen to you.. It's difficult to say even for a musician.. Lately I don't listen to music, I listen to people.. and when it's possible to have two people at the same time it's incredible.. Listen to the composer through the performer.. At that moment I can feel that I'm somehow knowing both.. and some times I like the composer, but everytime I listen to you.. I always think the same: this person has to be very very special, she seems to have that endless energy, that inside richness.. I would love to be his friend! It's so big what you offer everytime.. and it's so clear what you want to say from the music.. that I just can admire you, thank you, and learn.. Je hebt wat gemist vanmiddag, het was geweldig! behalve dat het mooi was om ons zoontje in het concertgebouw te zien optreden, was aleksey igudesman ontzettend goed, wat is die man grappig. omdat ik me nogal lui totaal niet had voorbereid, waren was ik erg verrast door het programma. ik had een veel "gewoner" klassiek concert verwacht. we hebben in elk geval volop genoten. zojuist heb ik me tranen met tuiten gelachen bij the wonderful world of the balalaika (heb je lang moeten oefenen voor je kunststukje?) ik begreep dat jij helemaal de vrije keuze had voor vanmiddag en er voor hebt gekozen om velen van ons met hem kennis te laten maken. vandaar dit mailtje: bedankt, het was erg inspirerend, ook namens Sascha (zoontje) en Nick (mijn dame). hartelijke groet, Martijn Peters | |

Deine neue CD ist wunderschön, besonders natürlich das Violin-Konzert von Britten. Es ist so mutig und leidenschaftlich. Da kann man wirklich wegfliegen. Außerdem hat mich das Tschaikowsky-Konzert live mit Christoph Poppen vom 23.09.07 besonders beeindruckt. Das finde ich sogar noch schöner als die CD-Studiofassung! I saw your concert at carnegie hall last month and I was truly inspired. You have such a beautiful upper register and you sing through your violin. So few people in the world can do that.
