I always watch your video recordings of violin repertoire and never fail to get inspired by your wonderful ideas. It is my honor to say that you are my favourite violinist! It was Maxim Vangerov who was my favourite before I compared his Rondo Capriccioso and yours. and yours was simply better! ! I love your Mozart violin concerto no.5 but I have one question, in bar 24 of the first movement, where the eight note staccatos, I notice you play the first note legato (emphasize) and then play the other 3 staccatos. I love the way you do this because it makes sense to musically lean towards the first eight note but in Mozart's manuscript, they are all equally marked. I would really really really like to know what you think of this part here. Also, I know you have played the Prokofieff violin concerto no.2, but could you also play the 1st concerto? I am learning it right now, but I haven't quite found the perfect violinist who play the piece to my satisfaction.

Ik heb een hele rare vraag. Mijn overgrootvader en bedovergrootvader waren vioolbouwers uit Markneukirchen (fam. Knorr). Mijn oma bezat een viool van Albert Knorr. De familie Knorr was nogal excentriek en was van mening dat een viool geen museumstuk was, maar bespeeld moest worden. Na de dood van mijn oma is, omdat kinderen en kleinkinderen geen viool waren gaan spelen, de viool om die reden verkocht. De koper was een violiste, achternaam Jansen, die toendertijd speelde in het Gelders orkest. Mijn vraag is nu: ben jij toevallig die violiste Jansen die die betreffende viool van Albert Knorr heeft gekocht? Zo ja, dan ben ik heel benieuwd wat er met die viool is gebeurd (ik weet dat je nu op een heel andere viool speelt). Mijn zoontje is viool gaan spelen en ik zou het heel leuk vinden als hij op een viool van een van zijn voorvaders zou gaan spelen. Misschien ken jij wel mensen die zo'n viool van Knorr bezitten. Satz engagiert haben - wie ich schon erwaehnte - scheinbar ganz passiv, aber von unvergleichlich starker und tiefer Wirkung, als ob nicht Sie da spielen, sondern ... die Musik selbst ?! . Und ihre As-Dur Reprise im 2. Satz - auch das, wie gesagt, so ein magischer Moment. Auch zu Ihren Mythen und der Sonate waere noch mehr zu sagen gewesen (kennen Sie den Film ueber die Nr. 1, die Quelle ? ...), aber es war nach dem Konzert dort wohl nicht der Moment. | Brein en muziek interessant? Als neuroloog in het UMC Utrecht houd ik me hiermee bezig, met name hoe muziek is in te zetten in de diagnostiek naar hersenfunctie en dan vooral de link met taal. Het onderzoek is ontstaan na een onverwachte (muzikale) bevinding bij een sopraan die geopereerd moest worden in de hersenen. Ze kon geen melodietjes van vier tonen onthouden terwijl ze wel gewoon kon zingen en haar vak uitoefenen. Deze discrepantie begrijp ik nog steeds niet en daarom zoek ik contact met musici om daarover te praten. Onlangs sprak ik ook met Iris Hond (pianist) hierover en zij kwam met een verklaring die in ieder geval het uitzoeken waard is. Dat is de reden dat ik muzikaal begaafde mensen benader (waarvan jij de tweede bent en Iris de eerste was) om hierover van gedachten te wisselen.
Anyway, veel succes morgen in het Concertgebouw. Ik kom in ieder geval ook luisteren. | |

Vanavond heb ik genoten van de documentaire over jou. En me ook verwonderd over het leven dat je leidt. Ik zit ook 'in de muziek', maar totaal niet te vergelijken. Ik geef al jaren muziek op een basisschool. Daar geniet ik (meestal) enorm van. Dat 'geven' waar je over spreekt, herken ik helemaal. Zo voel ik dat ook als ik voor de klas sta. You are an absolute inspiration to me. I'm also a violinist, and a young one; honestly, I see so much of myself in you that I can't help but aspire to be like you, and I can't truthfully say that about anybody else in the music world, not as sincerely or honestly as I can about you. Also, your music has such incredible passion and emotion to it; you give it such a humane voice. That's the main reason why I revere you so much, is because you focus upon the emotion of the music you're playing; you bring an element of human compassion and quality so strong to it that, in my eyes, your music is basically the definition of humanity. You leave no emotion untouched, whether it's love, fear, tenderness, despair, or incredible, raging passion... and all of it is absolutely sincere; it's all felt completely in your heart, as real as is possible for anything to be. Ik heb vorige week de documentaire over jou op tv gezien. Ik was onder de indruk hoe jij je ziel en zaligheid in de muziek legt. Daardoor is er voor het publiek een totale beleving wat een emotie. Het gevaar is dat je als je geen gas terug neemt op z'n tijd dat je er geen plezier meer aan kunt beleven. Dat is voor jezelf erg jammer maar ook voor het publiek die dan minder kan genieten van de prachtige muziek die je maakt. De muziek is zo mooi doordat jij je ziel en zaligheid er in kunt leggen. wat een bijzonder fijne documentaire van je afgelopen week op de NTR. Ik vind je passie en energie zo sterk en dat hoor ik direct in je spel terug. Zooooo fijn! Ik had Tchaikovsky vioolconcerto al van je, maar na deze docu was ik zo geraakt dat ik direct je 3CD box Portret en je nieuwste plaat Beau Soir moest bol.commen, hihi! Ik kreeg super veel inspiratie van je en ben direct begonnen te spelen, ik ben zelf jazz vibrafonist (wel ook klassiek slagwerk gestudeerd, maar de passie was voor mij het sterkst voor de vibrafoon).
